The brief

Create a solution that helps students find desired courses while making it easier for the universities to add new courses within the CMS

Design process

Research

Stakeholder communication

We conducted weekly/bi-weekly meetings with stakeholders who represented Circle U.

Stakeholder painpoints

Competitor analysis

I looked at different universities course catalogue to get an understanding of what functionality and information were desirable. I wanted answers to the following questions:

Lo-fi sketches

From the insight gained from the competitor analysis and stakeholders pain points, I tested out different layouts in sketches.

Development

Wireframe prototype

I drew wireframes based on research findings and tested layouts from sketches with project objectives in mind.

Goals:

Wireframes and flow for Circle U

User testing students

We user tested 5 students, where 3 were Circle U ambassadors and 2 were ambassadors at UiOs student democracy

Results

The new solution consists of four filter options without multiple choices. Insight from a similar solution developed by UiO showed that over 90% filtered searches used a single filter option.

The courses in the list switched out terms in line with feedback from user tests.

Reflections

There's need for further insight wether to keep languages mixed or switch all course descriptions to english for consistency.

The client expressed great interest in the new solution and looks forward to seeing how it can scale to a larger set of courses with even more topics.
